Modules for Year 1 Sem 1

I will be majoring in Life Sciences, and I am selected for Special Programme in Science (SPS)!

Modules i am taking:

CM1401 Chemistry for Life Sciences
Heard from many "independent" sources that this a "heavy" module. Both physical chem and organic chem is "squeezed" into one module; according to seniors it used to be two separate modules. Compulsory for life science majors. I forecast that I will be spending lots of time on this module. Already "ordered" my second-hand textbooks.

LSM1103 Biodiversity
This is supposed to be the most fun LSM level 1 module, There would be lots of field trips. Looking forward.

LSM1104 General Physiology
I opted for the Tuesday morning tutorial slot to keep my Wednesday free! It will be a four day work week if I drop PS1101E. :)

SP2171 Discovering Science
This a 4MC SPS module, spread over 2 semester (i.e. 2MC per sem). This is the introductory SPS module in which we would be learning the basic research skills, communication skills, and the software Mathematica.

SP2173 Atoms and Molecules
The other SPS module i am taking. It is one of the 4 thematic modules into the various fields of science. This module would be physics heavy, and physics is the science most foreign to me. (I don't even have O-level background) I will expect to be working hard in this module.

PS1101E Introduction to Politics
I am most probably going to drop this module, to keep my workload below 20MC. Originally wanted EC1301 (Principles of Economics), but exam clash... or ACC1002x, but 1000+ bid points?! Factors I will consider:
  1. If my results for GEK1042 (Intellectual Property) taken in special semester requires me to exercise my S/U option, I will definitely drop PS1101E to conserve my S/U options. PS1101E is a "write essay" module which I have totally no confidence in. I will know my special sem results this Friday
  2. I will go for the first lecture next week to preview it, before dropping it ahead of the "W" grade deadline on 21 August.
  3. Even if I decide not to drop it before "W" grade deadline, and I subsequently find workload for SPS modules unmanageable, I will still drop (officially or otherwise) to free up spare capacity.
Good luck for the academic year ahead! Work hard!

Update: I have decided to keep PS1101E, however this will be my "sacrificial" module when my workload increases. Attended the first lecture, and content seems quite interesting. Also met my friends from National Service. Will be aiming to pass, so can at least apply S/U option and clock one breadth module.

Update2: I have dropped PS1101E with a "W" grade... Should have been more decisive back then... sigh...
